Donaldsons are a problem also) The fuel plate can also crack and suck air, but you'll generally get a loss of power also. i have a cummins n14 stc. Very good quality.The starting place for an N14 is to check /replace the check valve in the fuel cooling plate. The problem was caused by water in both cases.

This is a freak problem and happened over night, I figured someone here might have encountered this same problem or know of any possible solutions.
