This review is not about the camping facilities, but rather about the perfect place to park and start your hike into the John Muir wilderness. whereas everyone and their mother was on the hike to Kearsarge pass.It was just a place to take a break in our trip up to Mammoth but the Onion Valley Campground is the launch point to three trails - all appropriate for rewarding day hikes.Went up the hill for the weekend. The temperature at Onion Valley Campground can be a little tricky though. The Kearsage Pass Trailhead is also 1/4 mile from the campground. The views from #14 were fantastic, we were able to have full view of the mountains from our picnic table. It's about 20 minutes up the mountain from independence, and the drive is lovely. Beautiful warm weather with sight breeze. Onion Valley Campground is located at Winnemucca, NV 89445. His Job is to take care of the campground. Opening and closing dates may be dependent on weather conditions. It was like looking at a Japanese Zen Garden. We ate like ravenous animals and could not have been more grateful! I thought I had died and gone to heaven!
