The people at the desk are very nice--we booked 4 rooms as a gift for my family this weekend, and it seems like a great hotel for our style of traveling: not stuffy or pretentious--the view is to die for--the landscaping is lush. The Malibu Beach Inn is a luxury oceanfront hotel offering elegantly-appointed guestrooms, onsite dining and spa suite services. Casa Malibu has the charm and customer focus of a B&B, but the privacy of an inn. We enjoyed sleeping to the sound of the ocean. The lady said, basically, "Oh, that's okay, just give me the menu and I'll fix it..." No apology--no offer to make it up to us in any way, and I had just spent over a grand at their hotel on four rooms---this, to me, was poor customer service. Affordable beachfront property in an otherwise exclusive area. Enchantiing and charming! Family run, the place feels homey and friendly. Don't be fooled by the "garden view" label, you're never far out of sight of the Pacific. For your bday, consider either a fun restaurant like Taverna Tony's, or something special like Nobu. I would suggest The Malibu Inn or Malibu Motel for others looking and don't have luck with this place. They felt bad for us, and brought over a bottle of champagne. I told the lady that at the very least, I expected an apology for misrepresenting the prices, and she said, "Okay, sorry about that," but somehow it came off as insincere....
