All that said, there is some damn good "backpacking" gear available from patagonia, mountain hardware and others that can often be found on closeout for a price that beats them all. That's how well the siliconized waist works. To me that is the biggest advantage when comparing the two. One point on Kuiu is that it runs small, so you likely would need to go 1 size up from what you normally wear. I just returned from Moose/Caribou hunting in Alaska. They breath amazingly, dry quickly, and the Polygiene is an awesome addition to keep scent down. I wear these pants for everything I do outdoors. I also purchased a pair of Sitka Ascent pants. I've been putting a solid butt kicking on them ever since.
