You are spot on when the problem arose and it is good to see Microsoft have responded to it eventuallyMy problem continues because I installed a complete reset on 6 March having tried everything I could before then and the microsoft response was released virtually the same day! That means I no longer have the offending upgrade (KB4074588) on my system and when I run KB4090913 I get "update not applicable"I have tried removing all updates since 6 March but no luck.I have used the Surface Diagnostic Kit for the nth time but it just keeps installing updatesThe only thing it does keep reporting is a problem with detecting multi touch points which I only mention in case it gives you a clue (it is referred to in my device specification)I have a working type cover as I have tested it on my daughters surfaceEven if I try to install the drivers with, or without, either surface cover in position it will not install "Surface Type Cover Filter Device" driverI have spent time trying to install via the zip file but cannot identify how to do it (and I thought I was a reasonably competent amateur) or precisely which of the ZIP files is correct as they all refer to needing "HID_Keyboard _inst.NT" which I believe

Managed to find a driver (copy from my friend's Pro 3) but unable to load the driver:- Device Manager unable to detech the type cover Keyboard, so the option to load from Manual to update is unavailable.- Add the drivers and folders under same directory as my friend's Pro 3, still unable to work.- In Device Manager, there is neither other devices nor unrecognised devices shown, hence unable to update the driver for unknown device!- In Device Manager, tried to install legacy devices, using the driver also not able to work too.I tried using this Surface Type Cover Keyboard on my friend's Pro 3 and it automatically works! The only different is that his Device Manager has a Type Cover Filter Device under the Keyboard.Hence my numerous attempts to install the driver for Type Cover Keyboard but to no avail. I understand that a lot of people probably don't have these problems - but please remember that, unfortunately, that is the minority. If so many are having the same fault DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT MS!!!!
It means paying £499.00 for a replacement along with her faulty SP3.Not great for a device that cost over £700.00 only two years ago with hardly any use!I love the surface and it is the perfect device for our jobs but Microsoft need to get this sorted.

The fix: Open Device Manager.
It has hardly been used (40 charge cycles) and has developed the same fault. Do you see it? Haven't you experienced something similar? I looked at their properties and none of them seemed relevant and they were all working properly.
MVP Ok. If prompted for a recovery key, select Skip this drive at the bottom ofStep 7: Select the target operating system you wish to reset. You can certainly try an in placeupgrade, get a 16GB USB stick and format it FAT32.

That's what I've been reading on the internet--an update corrupted the driver. Expand Keyboards (Surface Type Cover Filter Device was missing) Uninstalled one of the HID Keyboard Devices. To get to the UEFI, follow the steps I'd also appreciate it if you check what update has been installed so I can help you work on this further. Thanks, again!https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29150374/Surface-Pro-4-Type-Cover-Keyboard-Not-Working.html
Idon't know what will happen since your system is in an unknown condition. It happened again. I've tried everything from cleaning the contacts, soft reset, different type cover (her cover works fine on my sp3!) filter device was missing in device manager, only the HID keyboard device is listed. Robert, that is my next step, for sure. a. Will wait till tomorrow then.
The only different is that his Device Manager has a Type Cover Filter Device under the Keyboard. Guys, i cannot see a new firmware.

2. I had a similar things when I reloaded Windows - downloaded the Surface driver pack and tried all the cover drivers until one matched and bizarrely turned out the only one that worked was the touch music cover or something similar, might be worth trying. Haven't you experienced something similar?
