Emily Hudson is one of the main characters in this film. but still a good examination into faith, fanaticism, martyr complexes, and murder.

This weekend a new movie called September Dawn was released, presumably to coincide with the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

Before I even opened the comments page for this film, I was certain I'd find dozens of posts filled with alibis and distortions aimed at exonerating the Mormons of any complicity in the Mountain Meadows massacre.

September Dawn takes a horrific true story that could easily make for compelling drama and botches it near completely. Not according to every legitimate historical account of the incident.

But whether Brigham Young ordered it is still arguable.

Such is the historical backdrop for September Dawn, a bloody retelling of the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre, when members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) killed about 120 settlers who were on their way to California.



Add that recent discoveries of remains nearby indicate the Army's hurried burial location wasn't adequately noted on the maps.

September Dawn tells the story of the historic events that led to the massacre of the Fancher-Baker wagon train at Mountain Meadows in Utah on September 11, 1857.



September Dawn is not only bad history, it is an altogether bad film.

$1,051,000 Capt. But after doing some personal extensive research on the topic I was able to more readily connect with the film as well as scrutinize it's pluses and foibles.

I've met some of the Fancher family in Arkansas when back for visits.
