Take a lot of water and snacks. Past that, there were a lot of dirt bikers and jeeps/pickups. Your feet and legs will be sore for sure!A very LONG hike but awesome. Do not attempt Santiago Peak in summer unless you know what you’re doing. We took 11 hours and 9 of that was hiking. 1h 20m at the top. It has gradual uphill and starts at low enough elevation. The trail itself was pretty smooth and steady, never really exceeding more than 300 feet/mile. Just did this hike on Sunday all the way to both Modjeska and Santiago Peaks. 2h 50m We hiked to the main divide (about 9.5 miles up) and then kept going to Modjeska Peak and then to Santiago Peak.

Beautiful wildflowers along the way. You can park near here (if there is space), or you can also park in the small gravel lot just beyond the Wildlife Sanctuary along the side of the road (but not outside houses/property) Have you ridden this trail? This would be a hard hike on a summer day but was perfect in the fall. From the nature preserve up to Main Divide Road, I had it almost completely to myself, only encountering two mountain bikers. All told, it took about 11.5 hours to complete the hike. Please don’t litter, bring plenty of water, and enjoy.Went on a weekday with a friend and my pup.

Melting Snow made the peak difficult to access and very dirty to ride down. RECOMMENDED ROUTE Santiago looked close but was actually an extra 5 miles round trip - deceptive but worth it. Great slow burn Harding Truck Trail is a 26.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Trabuco Canyon, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. It’s an awesome accomplishment. The trek downhill was far tougher than going uphill. Some critters you might find are some salamanders, spiders, antlions, waterbugs and birds. Bring trekking poles and lots of ibuprofen - they will both come in handy. Started at the Sanctuary parking lot in Modjeska. I want to go back and see Santiago Peak which was another 1.5 miles up but didn’t think I would have enough time to make it down before dark. Started at 8:30 am and finished around 5pm. It is a fun a flowy downhill (more fun than either Maple Springs or Blackstar) and a fun loop is to park at the Silverado Canyon Christmas Tree Farm, ride up Maple Springs, and then descend Harding and ride out via Santiago Canyon Road (100% downhill pavement miles). RECOMMENDED ROUTE Great trail, ran and hiked this one around 8am. Brought head lamps for the very end as it had gotten dark on the last mile. We also went through most of our 5L of water each with 4 miles left. I would also suggest ibuprofen, 28.6 miles is a hell of a long hike, my hips started to ache after a while and the ibuprofen helped! It was still somewhat cool but heat really picked up just before 9am. It’s definitely my go to! Sustained climb.
