There were some families with young children, many teens and young adults partying which is honestly fine with us, but we saw about 8 masks out of 100 people we saw. Super easy to follow and paved for the first half. Then we hiked back to our car, walking along the river trail. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. You get both a great waterfall and swimming hole at the beginning and end!Overrun with young people partying with zero masks. The trail comes within 30 feet of the edge of the falls’ pool. Apparently coronavirus does not exist here. You can get drenched by mist if… We went past the upper falls and found a nice place with waist deep water and we had lunch along the shore. The sign nearby says there are salmon in the waters at this point at Upper Falls. Fairly easy trail and nice scenery. Also, all of the parking was free, and there was no entrance fee to get into the area, making it a perfect place to spend an afternoon. )This is a picture-perfect location to visit if you happen to be visiting the Mount Shasta/McCloud area. It's amazing how powerful this small waterfall is. Upper hills has a few picnic tables so bring your picnic lunch :) Easy and fun hike with a bit of incline. In the last year and a half part of the cliff wall has slumped twice dumping large boulders into the pool. The McCloud River is a 77.1 mile long tributary of the Pit River, which in turn flows into the Sacramento River. People from all over the world come to this spot, and we encountered many from a wide variety of countries on the trail. The water surging over the precipice is an awesome view from here. BE WARNED the Lower Falls is posted for no swimming. This smooth, well maintained trail offers summer swimming, fall foliage, and an early spring thaw, making it fun and accessible almost year-round.
