Rio Silanche Bird Sanctuary: June 16, 2009 I've visited this western lowlands site multiple times and despite seeing some excellent birds each time, I've always felt ambivalent about my experiences there, as if they didn't live up to the high standards that I've read about in various trip reports.

Rio Silanche is just a three hour drive out of Quito, 7 kilometers down an all-weather dirt road taken at kilometer 126 along the Quito-Calacali-Rio Blanco.
