They all have their secrets, and they all want to keep their secrets. While the book was not so terribly offensive as the final book of the Sookie Stackhouse series, it left a whole bunch to be desired. Sadly, that simply wasn't the case. The truth about this first book, however, is plain: despite an interesting premise, great characters and a lot of potential, it never goes anywhere.Not my favourite book by Charlaine Harris by a long chalk. I don't think I know of one person who really enjoyed the last couple of those books.If I could give this book six stars I would. This is more of a day to day account of what goes on in our "special" little town of witches, vampires, lycanthropes etc. Now we know!Wow, this book, the second book in the Midnight Texas trilogy (according to Ms Harris' web-site) gives us even more action than we had in book one.

The Texas locale in this book was about as colorless, dull, and rocky as the story. Every page was a delight, from the beginning where I got to meet beloved old characters from my favorite past Charlaine Harris series to the end, where I was left satisfied and enlightened and yet still curious about what is to come in the secretive town of Midnight, Texas. If the whole point of this novel is solving the murder of a character, I would have liked to know more about her, enough to actually care she was dead.

When this book was over, I couldn't have cared less if I never heard from any of those characters again, and honestly I can't fathom what she could possibly do to them to make them more appealing. But have no fear, not reading those other aren’t a must. It's like, This series is one of those kind where it doesn't move all that fast, but you just enjoy hanging out with the characters. A new lawyer, Olivia and an assist from Fifi made for an interesting tale. I have long been a fan of Charlaine Harris, and coming fresh off the let down of the final few books in the Dead series (namely the last one), I was really hoping she would redeem herself with this new book. Charlaine Harris has been a published novelist for over thirty-five years. This is the kind of community that reveals their steal bonds in times of trouble. We’d love your help.

* I think the narrator in the Audible version of this series added the lisp herself and it's funny and charming because it brings a bit of humility to a feline who otherwise lacks this particular character trait.

We have more action, but we also learn so much more about some of our favorite characters. A fan of Sookie Stackhouse, I squealed to see a new series from Ms. Harris.

We do get a sort of story made up up a couple of what I'd call co-subplots.Yeah...okay not nearly as good as the first book.
